KUALA LUMPUR – Businessman Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, known as “Datuk Roy”, has been remanded for another four days as anti-graft authorities continue to probe the Jana Wibawa programme.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) obtained a four-day remand order against the 54-year-old man from magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin today, Free Malaysia Today reports.
The portal said Hussein’s lawyer, Fahmi Abd Moin, had before that objected to MACC’s request to the court for a seven-day remand order.
Hussein was previously remanded for three days to assist MACC in its investigation into the Jana Wibawa scheme that was introduced during the administration of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Hussein is believed to have solicited bribes amounting to RM400,000 to avoid investigations into the scheme, which awards projects to Bumiputera contractors via direct negotiation.
He was released on bail from his three-day remand yesterday.
To date, Bersatu chairman Muhyiddin and two other party figures have been charged with corruption involving Jana Wibawa. The other two are Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad. – The Vibes, March 17, 2023
